Magnolia Bakery {NYC}

Their Story…

Magnolia Bakery opened in the summer of 1996 on a quiet corner in the heart of New York City’s Greenwich Village. It was envisioned as a cozy, old-fashioned shop where people could come for coffee and something sweet. With its vintage American desserts and decor, customers often remark that walking into the Bakery is like taking a step back in time.

In 2007, the original owner decided to pass her oven mitts to a new family she felt would maintain the integrity of what had become an iconic brand. And so, Steve Abrams, a veteran NYC restaurateur and consultant along with his wife and daughter, took over the Bakery. Since then they have slowly and thoughtfully expanded from one shop to six.

What Sheila Brought Back:

Red velvet Cupcake

The cream cheese icing was light and fluffy.  The cake however was very dry, but you have to remember that these did come a long long way.

Peanut Butter Toffee Bar

This was good. Real good.  Soooo good that Sheila and I had tried to create it since I have the Magnolia Bakery cookbook and we found a recipe called “Peanut Butter Heath Bar Blondies”. We thought the ingredients sounded close enough to it so we made it.  Then we tasted it. Then I made a funny face.  Well, as it turns out, somebody forgot to add the 2 1/2 cups of sugar.  Surprisingly, that somebody was not me.  You do the math.  The entire thing went into the compost.  Boo.  Oh well, we’ll give it a try another time.  This was what it looked like…

Siiiiick.

Sprinkles

Isn’t this the cutest little jar of sprinkles you’ve ever seen!
