Baked Founders
We like to think of ourselves as dessert experts; the kind of people blessed with a highly (almost holy) developed sense of taste and smell. Between our collective, we have eaten thousands of cakes and muffins and brownies (sometimes for dessert, sometimes as our only meal) and we have agonized over our dessert menu to the point of absurdity. This little storefront is our ode to the perfect bakery and we call it, simply, Baked.
Baked is owned and operated by Matt Lewis & Renato Poliafito.
Their first book, Baked: New Frontiers in Baking was published in October 2008, and became a best-seller and was a favorite of NPR, People Magazine, Martha Stewart and Oprah. No, Sheila did not bring me back this cookbook, I already had it in my cookbook arsenal. But…

…she took it up a notch and brought me back this…

Matt Lewis & Renato Poliafito autographs!! Apparently it went something like this…
Sheila: So, the two guys who own this bakery… do they actually work here?
Girl behind the counter: Well, they work here but not like here behind the counter. They work in the office
Sheila: Is the office anywhere within the vicinity?…
Sheila proceeded to tell the girl behind the counter of how much I admire the Baked cookbook and if it was possible to get an autograph. They unfortunately were in a meeting so she wasn’t able to meet them but, the girl behind the counter went back to ask for one on Sheila’s behalf. After a little while she reappeared with this!!

I also have their second book: Baked Explorations.

Sheila brought me back a platter with their signature orange crest…
