Seattle ~ Day 2 (Part II)

Ok, I guess I should finally finish posting my Seattle trip.  For some reason I feel like I’ve been so busy (doing who knows what) lately it seems like I don’t have time for anything.

You can find Day 1 here and Day 2 (Part I) here

After our doughnut and coffee break we headed to Pike Place Market.

Beautiful flowers, perfect for a special someone for Mother’s Day.

After walking around and checking out all the stands and shop it was lunch.  I knew lunch was going to be at this place:

You can’t go to Seattle without having (and bringing back a couple quarts) of their famous New England Clam Chowder.

It’s almost unbelievable how good it is.  Every single time I take the first spoonful of it I am amazed again and again at how delicious and perfect it is.  Everyone must have a cup of this before they die.

Oh Sur La Table, how I love thee. I just wish it wasn’t always so packed.  You definitely need practice patience at this place. It’s worth it though. I left with a sweet mini doughnut pan.

Then we met this baby goat. He was just tied up to the back of someone’s pick-up truck.  He was so soft and so cute. I wanted to take him home with us.

Awwww….

After the market we walked all around downtown doing some shopping.

There was a Canucks game on so we headed to a sports bar that we knew (well, we asked around) would be playing the game. We walked to the Fox Sports Grill.  As soon as you walked in the hostess asked “Are you here for the Canucks game”, we said yes and she took us to a  whole section of what looked like Canucks fans (i.e. they were all in Canucks jerseys).  I was feeling much Vancouver love in the air so we were very happy that we ended up at this place.

We shared a chicken salad.

Some buffalo shrimp.

I’m sorry to report that the Canucks lost.  Oh well, we’ll get them next time (and as you know, we did!).  Blackhawk down!

After the sad loss, and a few drinks, I thought it would be a great idea to walk to this place:

It was about a 2 mile walk that took almost 40 minutes.   I love walking so I didn’t mind it even though the pads of my feet were starting to burn.  Poor Steve was really feeling it in his legs as well.  He’s not a big fan of walking. Such a trooper.  I’ve never been to the The Melting Pot before so I was extra excited!!

When we got there (around 9 p.m. or so) we were told that it was going to be about a 30 minute wait.  That was fine with me, I didn’t walk 2 miles for no reason!  Plus, a bonus about waiting is that it was going to be happy hour after 9:30, 1/2 price on cheese and chocolate fondu! Score! That’s what I wanted to get there!

After about 30 minutes, we got a table.

It’s hot! Don’t touch.

We decided on the spinach and artichoke fondu.

Fontina and Butterkäse cheeses, spinach, artichoke hearts and garlic

The server made it right in front of us!  He had all the ingredients and just dumped everything into the pot, it looked so easy.  He said the secret to the cheese fondus here is to put a little bit of flour with the cheese, not a lot of flour, just a bit makes a huge difference.  Thanks guy!

We also had been chatting a bit with our server and had mentioned that it was our 5 year anniversary celebration weekend.  He then surprised us with a couple of these:

What a guy! Our server was lovely.

OoOoh, such mysterious smoke…I don’t know why that was happening.

For dessert we decided on the Pure Milk Chocolate Fondu.

Milk, dark or white chocolate melted for the most pure of all chocolate fondues

He didn’t make this in front of us, it came out already melted.

We dipped these goodies into it.

Stuffed and satisfied!

So after a great evening snack and long day of walking we caught a cab and headed back to our hotel for some much needed rest.

Stay tuned for Day 3…
